HATTIESBURG, MISS. — Elvis may have famously “left the building,” but Netflix’s Jack Curtis is bringing him right back—in full juke joint glory. The King lives on for one night only at The Wonders of Elvis, an electrifying after-party performance on May 22 at 9:30 p.m. at The Switchyard in downtown Hattiesburg.
Fresh from his appearance in Netflix’s hit true-crime docuseries The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga, Elvis impersonator Jack Curtis will perform a sizzling set of Presley classics, backed by a live combo band. The event is set to evoke the raw energy of an old-school juke joint, celebrating the music, mystique, and magic of Elvis Presley through one of his most passionate modern-day torchbearers.
Curtis’s journey to the stage is as storied as it is soulful. After moving to Tupelo—Elvis’s birthplace—in the early 1990s, Curtis began singing in a local hotel restaurant where Presley pilgrims gathered. “I started with five songs a week,” he recalled. “Pretty soon I had a full repertoire and sang Elvis every Monday night while guests dined.”
His first full-on tribute performance came after being invited to sing at Amelia Island. “I went to Memphis and rented a cheap jumpsuit and sideburns,” said Curtis. “That was my first real Elvis concert.”
The King’s influence didn’t stop at music. Curtis’s connection to the Presley legacy drew the attention of Netflix producers, who featured him in the 2024 docuseries alongside his brother Kevin—also an Elvis impersonator. The series spotlights Kevin’s turbulent past, including allegations later dismissed involving mailed toxins to political figures.
While Jack Curtis admits the producers may have taken creative liberties with his portrayal, he remains grounded. “I’m not theatrical. I told my story as a matter-of-fact person,” he said. Despite—or perhaps because of—the documentary’s dramatics, Curtis’s popularity has surged. “I’ve been contacted by Elvis fans from all over the world,” he noted.
Still, Curtis stays selective about his performances, balancing life in the insurance industry with a love for golf and travel. But The Wonders of Elvis was an offer too good to pass up. “I couldn’t say no to a night of great music and even greater company,” he said.
Don’t miss this chance to see the man behind the Netflix spotlight as he brings the heart and soul of Elvis back to life in downtown Hattiesburg. To purchase your tickets to The Wonders of Elvis and see Jack Curtis live, visit www.festivalsouth.org
